Who We Are

HEXIS Consulting & Design is a Mechanical and Structural Engineering design partner. We come from industry and have a strong focus on delivering practical engineering solutions that are code compliant and that are economical and sympathetic to manufacturing, installation and usage. We can support your engineering project from start to finish – CONCEPT – VERIFICATION – DETAIL DESIGN.

Hexis (ἕξις) is an Ancient Greek word meaning a disposition, a way of being, a habit that is stable and durable over time.

What We Do

Our engineers have a wealth of experience in medium to heavy machine design for various sectors. Our engineers have worked extensively in nuclear decommissioning – predominantly in the design of nuclear waste processing and handling equipment such as transfer bogies and remote handling. Other specialisms include the design of electric overhead cranes, crane girders and lifting beams, mechanical handling schemes and bespoke processing machinery. We can provide the following services:

  • Optioneering and Feasibility Studies
  • Conceptual Design and ROM costing
  • Code compliant engineering design of mechanical equipment to codes such as BS EN 13001, BS EN 13155 and BS 2573
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • 3D modelling
  • Detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings
  • Technical authoring for certification including CE marking

We can design and details steel and aluminum structures for various applications, including:

  • Access Platforms
  • Skids and base frames
  • Transportation containers
  • Crane gantries
  • Crane girders
  • General structures

Our structural design services cover initial design, Eurocode compliant verification (global and connection design) and detailing for manufacture. Typically, fabricated structural steel work within the UK falls within the catchment of BS EN 1090-2. We are experienced in designing and detailing to meet the requirements of BS EN 1090-2.

We consider ourselves experts in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM and DFMA) and can help you ensure that your designs are suitable for economical manufacture and assembly before they are taken to market. This helps to reduce the risk of delays in manufacture or cost increases – most typically both!

We have close working relationships with some of the UK’s most highly regarded manufacturers placing us at a unique advantage to offer this service.
